Mir ist ja ganz entfallen, dass ich doch schon vor Monaten etwas zum neuen Album von My Chemical Romance schreiben wollte. Inzwischen kann man es ja schon gar nicht mehr "neu" nennen.

Das hol ich jetzt ausführlich nach ^^ 

"Danger Days - The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" 

Zunächst einmal ist es ein ganz radikaler Stilwechsel. Wem MCR bisher zu emo war könnte es noch mal mit Danger Days versuchen. Die Band ist gut gereift ^^ Emo ist für mich so eine Mischung aus Gothic und Glam und auf der Skala sind die Herren inzwischen weiter Richtung Glam gerückt. 

Das Album hat eine grobe Grundhandlung, wobei es eigentlich mehr eine Art umfassende Atmosphäre ist. Die "Story" spielt 2019 in Kalifornien, wo die Bande "Killjoys", bestehend aus "Party Poison", "Jet Star", "Fun Ghoul" und "Kobra Kid" (Alter-Egos der Bandmitglieder), gegen die (natürlich) böse Firma "Better Living Industries" kämpft. Geführt werden sie von dem Radio-DJ "Dr. Death Defying"

1. "Look alive, sunshine" - Radio-Intro von Dr. Death Defying, das "Look alive, sunshine" klingt echt cool

2. "Na Na Na" - Musik unterhaltsam und für Partys geeignet, Text relativ ernst (naja, so halb) "The little children raise their open filthy palms like tiny daggers up to heaven and all the Juvee Halls and the Ritalin Rats ask angels made from neon and fucking garbage; scream out - what will save us? And the sky opened up; everybody wants to change the world, but no one, no one wants to die" Ich mag den Ausdruck "Ritalin Rats". Siehe dazu auch das Musikvideo , wo die Story/Atmosphäre des Albums auch vorgestellt wird.

3. "Bulletproof Heart" - Der Anfang ist nervig, aber das Ende hat was, dennoch eines der schwächeren Songs des Albums "Will you mean it when the end comes reeling? [...] We ain't gonna be the ones left standing"  

4. "Sing" Yay! Sing ist großartig. Mein zweitliebster Song auf dem Album. Siehe Musikvideo (insbesondere ab 2:30) "Cleaned-up corporation progress - dying in the process - children that can talk about it - living on the webways, people moving sideways - sell it till your last days - buy yourself the motivation - generation nothing - nothing but a dead scene - product of a white dream - I am not the singer that you wanted, but a dancer, I refuse to answer"

5. "Planetary (Go!)" Mindestens mein drittliebster Song vom Album ;-) Tolle Energie und super Rhythmus-"Wechsel", die Übergänge von Strophe zu Refrain sind hervorragend und beim Refrain muss man einfach mit ^^ "If my velocity starts to make you sweat then just don't let go, and if their heaven ain't got a vacancy [...] Truth is now acceptable, fame is now injectable, process the progress, this core is critical, faith is unavailable, lives become incredible, now please understand that I can't slow down [...] If my velocity makes you sweat then just don't let go, 'cause the emergency room got no vacancy [...] 

6. "The only hope for me is you" Hier hör ich den alten MCR-Sound recht deutlich. Davon abgesehen ist es für mich bloß langweiliges Gedudel. Ich ignoriere das Stück einfach.

7. "Jet-Star and the Kobra Kid/Traffic Report" Radio-Intermezzo von Dr. Death "Die with your mask on"

8. "Party Poison"  Party! Der Song macht eine Menge Spaß. Ein bisschen rockiger als "Na na na". Guter Song. "This ain't a party, get off the dance floor, you want to get down, here comes the gang war"

9. "Save yourself, I'll hold them back" Eine ungute Mischung aus nervig und langweilig

10. "S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W"  Yay! Mit Abstand der beste Song des Albums, kann ich nur empfehlen, auch wenn ihr MCR oder das Album nicht mögt. Es ist nicht so laut und stressig wie die anderen Songs, schafft es dabei aber noch viel besser die Atmosphäre rüber zu bringen. Ungewöhnlicher Sound, super Refrain und wie gesagt sehr atmosphärisch. Sowohl von der Musik her als auch vom Text ein großartiger Song, der es verdient hat, dass ich den gesamten Songtext wiedergebe:

11. "Summertime" Ein entspannter Song zum nebenbei-Hören. "Terrified of what I'd be, as a kid from what I'd seen; every single day, when people try and put the pieces back together, just to smash them down; turn up my headphones real loud; don't think I need them now, 'cause you stop the noise and- if you stay I would even wait all night or until my heart explodes; How long? Until we find our way in the dark and out of harm? You can run away with me anytime you want."

12. "Destroya" Wieder ein Song, der sich musikalisch deutlich abhebt vom restlichen Album und wieder auf eine sehr gute Weise. Eine meiner ersten Assoziationen war "System of a Down", aber das ist es eigentlich nicht. Hm. In welche Musikrichtung auch immer das geht, ich mag es ^^ Cooler Song. "They leave us all behind with duct tape scars on my honey; they don't like who you are, you won't like where we'll go [...] You don't believe in god, I don't believe in luck, they don't believe in us"

13. "The Kids from Yesterday" Hier ist der Pop-Anteil am stärksten zu hören, wodurch es ebenfalls ein wenig nach seichtem Gedudel klingt. Ruhiger, aber leider nicht so entspannt wie "Summertime". "'Cause you only live forever in the lights you make; when we were young we used to say that you only hear the music when your heart begins to break; now we are the kids from yesterday"

14. "Goodnite, Dr. Death" Radio-Outro von Dr. Death mit anschließender Nationalhymne, wie es wohl früher im Radio üblich war. 

15. "Vampire Money" Zum Abschluss eine unterhaltsame Zugabe. Hör ich mir auch des Öfteren gerne an. Wikipedia hat mir verraten, dass der Song so entstanden sei, dass bei MCR anfragt worden waren, ob sie einen Song für "Twilight: New Moon" machen könnten, aber sie lehnten ab, da es inzwischen nicht mehr ihr Ding sei. Angebliches Zitat von Gerard Way: "There's a lot of people chasing that fucking money. Twilight? A lot of people around us were like, ‘please, for the love of God, do this fucking movie.' But we'd moved on." Jetzt wo ich das weiß macht der Text auf einmal viel mehr Sinn und ist noch viel unterhaltsamer! "Sparkle like Bowie in the morning sun" Ha! "Hair back, collar up, jet black, so cool, sing it like the kids that are mean to you; C'mon, when you wanna be a movie star, c'mon, play the game and take the band real far [...]

Ja, soviel dazu. Ein sehr gutes Album. Ich mag die älteren Sachen von MCR auch sehr, aber "Danger Days" ist einfach eine andere Liga. Ich weiß auch, dass viele MCR-Fans die Neuerungen nicht mögen und das Album schon im Vorfeld ablehnen, aber ich würde empfehlen, sich doch noch mal einzuhören, denn der MCR-Sound ist durchaus noch gut erkennbar, aber eben reifer und "irgendwie - anders."
