Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Review: Sweeny Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Once again Tim Burton. Once again a musical. This time, though, with real actors. And among them, once again, Johnny Depp. And it has been already six the collaborations between the Gothic filmmaker and the idiosyncratic performer.

Movie Review: Taken
Liam Neeson does his best Arnie impersonation, taking on a group of Albanian thugs who have kidnapped his daughter to sell her to sexual slavery in Europe. Not original, but it's fantastic viewing nonetheless.

Movie Review: The Dark Knight
Holy Oscars Batman! The Dark Knight is definitely not short on action or Oscar winning performances. It makes you literally pop out of your seat with fright and it is full of surprises you don't suspect or anticipate.

Movie Review Hellboy II: The Golden Army
As with all my movie reviews, I shall give you an honest opinion of the movie, going through both its good and bad points. Now, to start with, and I must write this before I forget, I had a major issue with the contingency of the movie, centering around the character Abe Sapian.  Those of you familiar to this series of comic know that Abe is a water inhabitant that in order to survive out in the open must wear the water equivalent of an oxygen tank.

Movie Reviews: SiCKO (2007)
This film is frightening and at times extremely funny. Michael Moore manages to expertly push the audience in shock and makes everyone feel like something needs to be done. I guess I feel this is a good idea, almost everyone knows of a health insurance nightmare and in many peoples opinions medical care is just too expensive but personally I had severe problems with certain aspects of Michael Moore's techniques.

Transformers

The Transformers Movie
If there is one movie that's destined for today's technological and special effects advances, it comes out in July of 2007: the Transformers.

4 GM Vehicles, Stars of Transformers
General Motors has recently hosted its sixth annual ten pre-Oscar fashion event at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood with four new movie star guests namely Bumblebee, Autobot Jazz, Autobot Ratchet and Ironhide ---creations of DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures in partnership with Hasbro's forthcoming July 4th action-adventure release--Transformers.

Transformers Action Figures
The Transformers are back! It seems everyone is looking for Transformers action figures. The Fourth of July is highly anticipated and will not be long forgotten by Transformers fans old and new. The film, and all the hype surrounding it, is sure not to disappoint as well as the Transformers action figures and toys that have fans in frenzy!

Transformers: Movie Trailer
A long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, a war was being waged between the noble Autobots (led by the wise Optimus Prime) and the devious Decepticons (commanded by the dreaded Megatron) for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it. The Autobots managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasted off in search of it. He eventually tracked it to the planet of Earth (circa 1850), but his reckless desire for power sent him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forced him into a paralyzed state. His body was later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, and before going into a comatose state Megatron used the last of his energy to engrave a map, showing the location of the Allspark, into the Captain's glasses, and send a transmission to Cybertron. He is then carted away by the Captain's ship. A century later, Sam Witwicky, nicknamed Spike by his friends, buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, as he bears the Captain's glasses and the map carved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth - in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all "specimens of this alien race," and Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela find themselves in the middle of a grand battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, stretching from Hoover Dam all the way to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, within the depths of the Pentagon, the cryogenically stored form of Megatron awakens.

Live Free or Die Hard and Ratatouille

Why Live Free or Die Hard Must be a Box Office Hit
Bruce Willis' career is major jeopardy unless his latest action flick surpasses the 100 million mark by August of 2007. Too much competition from newer action stars will jeopardize his long career.

Movie Review: Die Hard Series (1, 2, 3)
What differentiates these three action classics is not the way Willis plays McClane but the types of VILLAINS he faces.

Screenplay Seminar: Die Hard (1988) Deconstructed
The Hero's Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon.

Bruce Willis Lives Free
Bruce Willis talks with Harry Smith about his latest flick, Live Free or Die Hard, and how the latest installment of the popular Die Hard franchise was updated for 21st century audiences.

Bruce Willis Talks to Sky News on the Red Carpet
Sky News caught up with Bruce Willis on the red carpet of his new movie Die Hard 4 in London's Leicester Square.

Movie Review: Live Free or Die Hard
This is my review for the movie Live Free or Die Hard. When a criminal plot is in place to take down the entire computer and technological structure that supports the economy of the United States (and the world), it's up to a decidedly old school hero, police detective John McClane, to take down the conspiracy, aided by a young hacker.

Movie Review: Ratatouille
This is my review for the movie Ratatouille. Remy is a rat, constantly risking life in an expensive French restaurant because of his love of good food, as well as a desire to become a chef. Yet, obviously, this is a rather tough dream for a rat. But opportunity knocks when a young boy, who desperately needs to keep his job at the restaurant, despite his lack of cooking abilities, discovers and partners the young Remy. Its up to the two of them to avoid the insane head chef, bring the rest of Remy's family up to his standards, win his partner a girl, and of course, produce the finest Ratatouille in all of France.

What is Ratatouille?
Disney's new movie Ratatouille, to come out June 29th (Hey Disney! Free advertising!), had me wondering: what exactly is ratatouille? Sure, I'd heard of it, but I wanted to know more about the likes of a French classic that cooked up its own Disney movie recipe. So, I took to the research, and now I'm here to answer any similar questions you may have. Ask away!

Ratatouille Trailer
Academy Award-winning director Brad Bird (The Incredibles) and the amazing storytellers at Pixar Animation Studios (Cars, Finding Nemo) take you into an entirely new and original world where the unthinkable combination of a rat and a 5-star gourmet restaurant come together for the ultimate fish-out-of-water tale. In the hilarious new animated-adventure, RATATOUILLE, a rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the city of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unwanted visitor in the kitchen at one of Paris' most exclusive restaurants, Remy forms an unlikely partnership with Linguini, the garbage boy, who inadvertently discovers Remy's amazing talents. They strike a deal, ultimately setting into motion a hilarious and exciting chain of extraordinary events that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down. Remy finds himself torn between following his dreams or returning forever to his previous existence as a rat. He learns the truth about friendship, family and having no choice but to be who he really is, a rat who wants to be a chef.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Continues the Saga in Excellent Fashion, Savvy Mate?
What a relief! Like many of my fellow reviewers, I held my breath after Dead Man's Chest hoping installment three Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End would not be left in the chest with Davy Jones' disgusting, slimy beating heart. Three could have gone in the dumper with the average performance of Pirates two, but thankfully At World's End gets an excellent rating like the first Pirates' presentation The Curse of the Black Pearl.

On the heels of 2005's blockbuster The 40-Year-Old Virgin, writer/director Judd Apatow again mines hilarity from the relatably human in a comedy about a one-night stand with unexpected consequences: Knocked Up. Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy, Roswell) joins Virgin alums Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann for a comic look about the best thing that will ever ruin your best-laid plans: parenthood. Allison Scott (Heigl) is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist whose 24-year-old life is on the fast track. But it gets seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone (Rogen) results in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the prospect of going it alone or getting to know the baby's father, Allison decides to give the lovable doof a chance. An overgrown kid who has no desire to settle down, Ben learns that he has a big decision to make with his kid's mom-to-be: will he hit the road or stay in the picture? Courting a woman you've just Knocked Up, however, proves to be a little difficult when the two try their hands at dating. As they discover more about one another, it becomes painfully obvious that they're not the soul mates they'd hoped they might be. With Allison's harried sister Debbie (Mann) and hen-pecked brother-in-law Pete (Rudd) the only parenting role models the young lovers have, things get even more confusing. Should they raise the baby together? What makes a happy lifetime partnership after all? A couple of drinks and one wild night later, they've got nine confusing months to figure it out...

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, 2006
I probably have lost my sense of making coherent connections out of broken bits of narration because throughout the movie I couldn't help but wonder - what the hell is really going on here? - Must see to appreciate the magic of special effects and world-class make up transforming a ship full of adults into amazingly freaky aquatic monsters. Also - if you have never seen a Godzilla-size octopus attacking a ship and eating it alive like a pretzel, this is your chance to savor it. Bon appetite!

Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean 2
The mangy dog in Pirates of The Caribbean 2 got the biggest laugh today, during the movie's opening afternoon, and deservedly so. I tried to stay awake, and believe me, I don't sleep at the movies. People next to me, obviously Johnny Depp fans, laughed at the scenery, providing he was in the frame. Nothing in the dialogue helped him a bit. His mugging, and bizarre sideways strutting were still fun, but he, and Keira Knightely were on camera far too little, and Orlando Bloom, or should I say, Or-Blando Bloom, that improbable love interest, was homely and un-swashbuckling beyond belief. This is the middle part of a trilogy, apparently, and according to a New York Times reviewer, the movie doesn't really have a beginning or end: it's all middle. I have to agree. My advice is to take your $11 or $12 and purchase the first installment of Pirates on video, says Dr. Gary S. Goodman, best-selling author of 12 books, over 700 articles, and Fortune 1000 consultant.

Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean 2: It's not a Treasure by Far
I'm not sure how to start this review, the reason being is, I was once told if you got nothing nice to say, don't say anything, or always say something nice if your going to slam something next. This movie is fragmented, or disjointed throughout its long three-hour worthless scenes.

Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates of the Caribbean opened at Disneyland in 1967 and became an instant classic. But it's a picture memory from sometime early in 1966, inside a basic warehouse building at WED Enterprises, that still resonates most strongly with me.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
It's been a while since the last sea adventure featuring the likes of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), his lovely fiancé Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), and the charismatic swashbuckling Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). This time, director Gore Verbinski has given us more of the same, which is good, considering the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie was such a blast.

Shrek the Third

Best Movie Lines Ever!
See the statistics on the greatest movie lines of all time!

Screenplay: Shrek (2001) Deconstructed
The Hero's Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon.

Movie Review: Shrek
A modern-day fairy tale rife with cutting edge humor, Shrek is a computer-animated film for the ages.

Shrek 1 And 2
There is very little to say about these films that you probably don't already know. Shrek is that lovable ogre who likes to be scary but rarely is. The films are made by DreamWorks and both of them [Shrek 1 and Shrek 2] can be watched either alone or together.

Shrek: Best Children Tales Character
My small niece is a great fan of Shrek and I was not surprised to see the theme of her second birthday party as Shrek. This character is the most widely used character in most of the children's tales. Only the name of Shrek excites the kids as he work wonders in the tales for kids since a long time and continuing to do so.

Shrek the Third: Exclusive Mike Myers Interview

Stan Lee Talks Spider-Man 4

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Do I Write for TV if I Live in NYC?
Despite popular (and fairly legitimate) concern, it definitely is possible to write for TV if you are based in New York rather than Los Angeles. Yes, ultimately, you will want to live here in L.A. to take advantage of the bulk of work being here. But you don't need to live here to get hired. You just need to meet the right people who do.

Breaking Into Hollywood: Who Should I Pay to Get Paid?
I'm going to keep this short, but not at all sweet! Who should you pay to make it in show biz? You should expect to pay any professional whose products or services help you break into the industry if that person will NOT otherwise directly financially profit from your income.

Breaking Into Hollywood: Are Screenwriting Seminars Really Necessary?
I'm a producer who has enjoyed both sides of the writing seminar experience. As a writing fellow years ago, I attended many diverse seminars. Then, as a story analyst for a major production company, I developed my own system for understanding and applying story structure, which I now teach in a seminar of my own. There are three things I explain to people who question or resist learning how to write through professional seminars.

Why Spider-Man is the Number One Movie Superhero
Stan Lee's Spider-Man has surpassed all other superheroes at the box office. Spider-Man the movie came out in 2002, breaking records with a over $114 million in one weekend. It finished with over $400 million in the US alone. The sequel ended it's run with just a little less, with a little over $373 million in the US. So what's Spidey got that makes him the number one box office superhero?

Spiderman 3: Go And Watch It
Spiderman 3 is a movie that probably the entire world has been waiting to come out, because it promised to be a blast. I was one of those who were eagerly waiting for the movie to come out, so I didn't waste any time, and was almost first in line at the cinema waiting to buy tickets. And believe me, this movie was worth it, it was more than a blast it was absolutely spectacular.

Spiderman 3: Movie Cast Completely Bored of the Franchise
Talk about Prima Donnas. This is the cast of Spiderman 3 pretty much sounding almost bitter about even being in the movie and having to promote it. If the producers would have known they were going to act like this, they would have told them not to bother showing up to promote it. I am sure they were excited about cashing those big paychecks though.

My Predictions For The Top 10 Blockbusters Of Summer 2007
If you really want to see how well a seasoned movie goer-reviewer predicts future box office scores, read this article! See if you can out predict this reviewer or if you agree with most of the top predictions.

The Top 10 Sports Movies of All Time
There have been thousands of sports movies throughout the years. Some have been absolute crap and most are mediocre at best, but there are that select few that remain deep-seated in our memories. Those movies not only invoke our passion of sports, they manage to cross over and teach us greater life lessons. They teach us the importance of hard work and learning from our mistakes. They teach us that the impossible can come true. That's what I consider a great sports movie. Well, either that or it has to be really funny.

Box Office Flops: More Than Meets the Eye?
There's something oddly satisfying about seeing a big-budget movie flop. Whenever we hear about these ambitious, special effects-laden extravaganzas going down in flames we get an odd feeling of schadenfreude.

Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire Talk Spider-Man 3

Movie Review: Black Snake Moan
Read the movie review of the 2007 film Black Snake Moan, staring Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci. A God-fearing bluesman (Jackson) takes to a wild young woman (Ricci) who, as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, looks everywhere for love, never quite finding it.

Alpha Dog
Nick Cassavetes is the son of one of America's most revered film directors. John Cassavetes (1929-89) made cheap cinema look intellectually respectable. He was pure jazz. His shooting style was fast and loose, and his plots were ugly. But he adored actors.

Movie Review: Casino Royale (2006), Part 1
Daniel Craig as James Bond is good but very different in this latest addition to the long-standing string of Bond movies which depicts a young Bond earning his 00 status. This is a prequel to everything that comes after it. We are watching Bond coming into his own by proving his metal to a skeptical M.

James Gandolfini: What's Next For Tony Soprano?
It must be though to be Jim Gandolfini these days. He is so thoroughly identified in our minds with the Tony Soprano character that it is going to be hard to watch him as anybody else.

Why do we love The Sopranos?
There is so much guilt involved in loving The Sopranos, perhaps similar to the guilt of enjoying a boxing match.

Spider-Man 3
Spiderman is back battling the forces of evil, in himself, and in the form of the Sandman and a some strange alien goo type substance that takes over first Spiderman, then another guy. Spiderman and his buddy settle their differences to battle these foes.

Pamela Anderson: Movie Star and Animal Rights Activist
Pamela Anderson! What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name Pamela Anderson? Bimbo? Party Girl? Bombshell? Well two out of three ain't bad! I don't think she's a bimbo...not by any stretch of the imagination. For all of her partying image and all things blonde, she is nonetheless a devoted humanitarian.

Pamela Anderson: Kentucky Friend Cruelty
You won't find Pamela Anderson's new release at your local multiplex--the former Baywatch star and longtime animal advocate's latest project is Kentucky Fried Cruelty, an undercover expose blowing the whistle on the cruel treatment of animals at KFC's factory farm and slaughterhouse suppliers. The video details just how horribly KFC treats chickens—birds are so crippled that they can't even walk, live birds are forced into tanks of scalding-hot water while completely conscious and able to feel pain, and Moorefield, W.Va., slaughterhouse workers kill birds by slamming them against the wall and stomping on them.

Children of Men: Long Takes
An explanation of how a few of the very long and complicated takes in the movie were done using new techniques. Featurette can be found on the Children of Men DVD. World divisions, chaos and anarchy, these are the ways the world and the last remaining inhabitants are checking out. This P.D. James adaptation of the novel The Children of Men is as unforgiving as it is relentless, with no child being born for eighteen years, Human life and its moral self is eroding into extinction. Set in Britain in the year 2027, this is Theodore Faron (Clive Owen) finding his ghosts coming back to haunt his fruitless life, in the form of an underground band of rebels The Fishes. Unwittingly drawn into their plight, learning who can be trusted, who can be dependable, and how he must hold the most precious secret the Human race has been so longing to hear, the miracle that can change the course of Humanity; the first pregnant woman in eighteen years. On the run, he, Kee (Claire-Hope Ashitey) and Miriam (Pam Ferris) must travel cross-country, on the run, terrified and helpless to the safe haven of the Human Project. With the help of aging hippie Jasper Palmer (Michael Caine) this horrific, dark, unconventional and uncompromising road movie is all that is left between the demise of the Human race and the birth of a new drawn.

Why Children of Men should be nominated for Best Picture
VIDEO CONTAINS SPOILERS! Alfonso Cuaron's amazing dystopian vision Children of Men is apparently being completely ignored by Universal and dumped quietly at the box office despite glowing praise from critics. Spider-Man 3 World Premiere in Tokyo

The Transformers Movie
If there is one movie that's destined for today's technological and special effects advances, it comes out in July of 2007: the Transformers.

Where Are All The Good Movies?
As more and more movies are emerging, the race for original ideas is far from over. Yet how much of what we see today hasn't already been seen before?

Blood Diamond: This Is Africa
You heard right. Not Sparta, but AFRICA! I finally watched Blood Diamond last night, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Danny Archer, Djimon Hounsou as Solomon Vandy, and Jennifer Connelly as Maddy Bowen. The movie is about the illegal trafficking of diamonds in Africa - diamonds are harvested in Sierra Leone, smuggled into Liberia, and from there, sold to the rest of the world. The film tries to take on a documentary approach, meant to inform the world about the horrors behind those pretty little stones, but who are they kidding. Leonard DiCaprio doesn't do documentaries. This movie is meant to entertain the masses. And that it does, quite well in fact - Blood Diamond was nominated for 5 Oscars and a Golden Globe.

Death of a President: the Most Controversial Film
An ingenious, well-made political thriller! Winner of the International Critics' Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, Death of a President is a fictional 2008 TV documentary broadcast on the assassination of President George W. Bush on October 19th, 2007.

Disturbia Trailer
After his father's death, Kale Brecht (LaBeouf) becomes sullen, withdrawn, and troubled -- so much so that he finds himself under a court-ordered sentence of house arrest. His mother, Julie (Moss), works night and day to support herself and her son, only to be met with indifference and lethargy. The walls of his house begin to close in on Kale. He becomes a voyeur as his interests turn outside the windows of his suburban home towards those of his neighbors, one of which Kale begins to suspect is a serial killer. But, are his suspicions merely the product of cabin fever and his overactive imagination?

Maybe Imus Was Listening to Some Verbally Abusive Rap Music

Why Don Imus Should be Sacked
A furor is raging around Don Imus, the talk show radio host for the racist offensive remarks he made about of Black women basketball players with many Black leaders demanding his sacking. In this case, and for three reasons, Imus should go.

Why the Growth of Racism has Little to do with Racists
What is truth and how is perception of it affecting our world order and quality of life? Racism emerges from someone's truth but is actually controlled and condoned by the silent majority.

Maybe Imus Was Listening to Some Verbally Abusive Rap Music
Was IMUS just a parrot for verbal abuse that he is hearing everyday in music and from others?

Should Dave Letterman Be Fired?
First Don Imus, now Rutgers University wants Dave removed from the airwaves.

Imus Suspended for Racial Slurs
CBS Radio and MSNBC both said Monday they were suspending Don Imus' morning talk show for two weeks as a protest grew about his reference last week to members of the Rutgers women's basketball team as nappy-headed hos.

Eye To Eye: Don Imus' Controversy
Katie Couric presents Richard Schlesinger's interview with Rev. Al Sharpton. They discuss radio host Don Imus' racially-charged remarks about a women's college basketball team.

MSNBC, NBC and CBS: Disclose Suspension of Imus Show
Does this suspension satisfy the level of harm caused by Don Imus's racial slurs ... not ... !!! How much of a financial deterrent would it take to protect the public interests, and prevent future occurrences of this nature, by network broadcasters?

Nappy Hos
HotConflict.com covering racism and the Don Imus comments to Rutger's Womens Basketball team. Imus suspended from MSNBC. Racism in Islam from the Roots. Alison Stewart is black host of daily show The Most on MSNBC.

Don Imus's Racist Remarks
These were the exact words of Don...while saying it...he was still laughing...but I'm not sure why he's the only one in the spot light…but who ever he was talking to…also said sexist remarks.

Lenny Bruce has an answer for Michael Richards and Don Imus
Many of you on here are too young to know who Lenny Bruce was. He was the father of observational comedy. While he was far from the first to use blue language, he was possibly the first to use social satire to remove the power of what some consider offensive words.

Grindhouse Babes

Movie Review: The Pursuit of Happyness
In 1981, Chris Gardner was a struggling salesman in little needed medical bone density scanners while his wife toiled in double shifts to support the family including their young son, Christopher. In the face of this difficult life, Chris has the desperate inspiration to try for a stockbroker internship where one in twenty has a chance of a lucrative full time career. Even when his wife leaves him because of this choice, Chris clings to this dream with his son even when the odds become more daunting by the day. Together, father and son struggle through homelessness, jail time, tax seizure and the overall punishing despair in a quest that would make Gardner a respected millionaire.

Movie Review: Little Miss Sunshine
The story centers on the typical dysfunctional family, a stressed mother, slightly over bearing father, swearing grandfather, awkward teenage boy, suicidal uncle and charming little girl. Now if that doesn't sound like a recipe for laughter then I don't know what does!

Movie Review: Kamp Katrina
Kamp Katrina, a moving documentary about a small group of Hurricane Katrina survivors in New Orleans, had its East Coast premiere at the Florida Film Festival recently. Ms. Pearl, a Native American and lifetime New Orleans resident, offers her backyard garden as a temporary tent city for 14 residents who lost their homes because of the hurricane and subsequent flooding. For up to six months, Ms. Pearl and her construction-worker husband generously provide space, hot and cold running water, and comfort to the displaced survivors, many of whom have problems with substance abuse and mental illness.

Movie Trailer: Kamp Katrina
Ms. Pearl — a New Orleans native — converts her backyard into a tent city where 14 displaced people live for 6 months. She provides construction jobs and basic resources to help them assist in rebuilding the city. The situation gradually goes violently awry and she is confronted with an array of abuses amidst a broken city.

Chris Gardner: Excerpt from The Pursuit of Happyness
Self-made entrepreneur Chris Gardner reads an excerpt from his book, The Pursuit of Happyness, recounting his experience at an EST group therapy seminar in 1970s San Francisco. This video was taped at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco. This clip contains explicit language. Chris Gardner in conversation with 20/20 producer Lynn Redmond about his newly published autobiography, The Pursuit of Happyness. Gardner's fascinating story is also the subject of a movie of the same name starring Will Smith as Gardner and Smith's son Jaden as Gardner's son, Chris Jr. The film was shot in the Bay Area and was released in December 2006 by Columbia Pictures. Gardner is President and CEO of Rich LLC. He is also an avid philanthropist committed to assisting organizations involved in education and economic development.

Charles Frazier: Following Up Cold Mountain
Author Charles Frazier talks about the pressures involved in following up his first novel, Cold Mountain - a bestseller and National Book Award winner - with his latest book, Thirteen Moons. Charles Frazier, the best-selling author of Cold Mountain, discusses his long awaited second novel Thirteen Moons. Currently on best-seller lists everywhere, this story is steeped in history, rich in insight, and filled with moments of sudden beauty. Charles Frazier's Thirteen Moons is the story of one man's remarkable life, spanning a century of relentless change. At the age of twelve, an orphan named Will Cooper is given a horse, a key, and a map and is sent on a journey through the wilderness to the edge of the Cherokee Nation, the uncharted white space on the map. Will is a bound boy, obliged to run a remote Indian trading post. As he fulfills his lonesome duty, Will finds a father in Bear, a Cherokee chief, and is adopted by him and his people, developing relationships that ultimately forge Will's character. All the while, his love of Claire, the enigmatic and captivating charge of volatile and powerful Featherstone, will forever rule Will's heart. In a distinct voice filled with both humor and yearning, Will tells of a lifelong search for home, the hunger for fortune and adventure, the rebuilding of a trampled culture, and above all an enduring pursuit of passion. As he comes to realize, when all else is lost and gone forever, there is yearning. One of the few welcome lessons age teaches is that only desire trumps time. Will Cooper, in the hands of Charles Frazier, becomes a classic American soul: a man devoted to a place and its people, a woman, and a way of life, all of which are forever just beyond his reach. Thirteen Moons takes us from the uncharted wilderness of an unspoiled continent, across the South, up and down the Mississippi, and to the urban clamor of a raw Washington City. Throughout, Will is swept along as the wild beauty of the nineteenth century gives way to the telephones, automobiles, and encroaching railways of the twentieth. Steeped in history, rich in insight, and filled with moments of sudden beauty, Thirteen Moons is an unforgettable work of fiction by an American master.

Michael Arndt: Themes of Little Miss Sunshine
Screenwriter Michael Arndt talks about the major themes present in his Academy Award-winning script for the film Little Miss Sunshine. In 2000, screenwriter Michael Arndt had no credits, no agents, no publishing history when he took a year off to write a saleable script that got him an agent and a deal and, five years after that, one of the big hits of 2006. A new book, Little Miss Sunshine: The Shooting Script, details the fascinating behind-the-scenes story of the indie runaway hit with an introduction, afterword, and enlightening scene notes from Arndt. Starring Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Abigail Breslin, Paul Dano, and Alan Arkin, the film strikes a nerve with everyone who's ever been awestruck by how their muddled families seem to make it after all. Michael Arndt offers a rare insider's look and considered thoughts on one of the film's most prevalent themes, success vs. failure.

Blades of Glory Premiere in Hollywood

Breaking Into Hollywood: Do I Need to Read the Trades?
I very regularly hear the question: Why should I read the trades? Here's the quick answer: you have to read the trades to know what's going on in the industry you're trying to earn work, income and respect in. I think the better question is: HOW should I read the trades? That's because once you zero in on the key information, you'll be less overwhelmed by all of the additional stories that make reading the trades feel like such a task.

Breaking Into Hollywood: What Materials Do I Need to Market Myself Effectively?
Recently, I was helping a friend of mine put together materials for an upcoming project. We requested a bio from one of the participants three times, and it finally arrived a few days later, with typos. At that moment I thought, Sometimes Hollywood hopefuls are so focused on what they hope employers are going to give them, they aren't prepared with what they're supposed to give US. So here are the five marketing materials, at minimum, you need to always have on hand to advance as a professional in show business.

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Much Should I Ask People to Pay Me?
If you're starting out or moving up in the entertainment industry, knowing what pay rate to ask for is particularly hard. In general, it's very important not to sell yourself too short OR price yourself too high. What determines this is not just the market rate for the services you're delivering. When you're setting your fee for a job, take nine key things into consideration - every time.

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Do I Sell My Own Reality TV Show?
How do you sell a reality show? Let's start with the gut answer. If you're like most people who work in reality TV, you sell a show by working for some years in reality television, amassing good credits and production experience, building strong relationships with production companies, networks and vendors, running someone else's shows for trench education, then pitching your concepts and your solid reputation to make your first sale(s). If that doesn't sound like you, or especially if it does, please read on.

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Do I Sell My New Screenplay?
When new screenwriters finish their scripts, they often begin the search for a rep to submit the work around town. But is that the best way to do it? Well, sure! But it's not the ONLY way to do it. As you prep to get your script sold, base your marketing strategy on these three steps.

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Do I Get a Job as a Story Analyst or Script Reader?
One of my first jobs in Los Angeles was as a story analyst at a major production company. If you'd love to spend long nights and weekends reading and analyzing the future hits (and not-so-much-a-hits) of Hollywood, here's how you go after this fascinating, funny and frankly high burn-out entry-level gig.

In 2002, two rival Olympic ice skaters were stripped of their gold medals and permanently banned from men's single competition. Follow the Career of Will Ferrell
From A Night at the Roxbury in 1998 to Blades of Glory (2007), this comedic genius is already a legend in his own time. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Will Ferrell became interested in performing while a student at University High School in Irvine, California, where he made his school's daily morning announcements over the public address system in disguised voices. He started as a member of the Los Angeles comedy/improvisation group The Groundlings, where fellow cast members Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph and former Saturday Night Live (1975) repertory players such as Laraine Newman, Jon Lovitz and Phil Hartman began their careers. It was there he met Chris Kattan and the two became good friends and both went on to Saturday Night Live (1975) later. He has also appeared on several television programs, including Strangers with Candy (1999), Grace Under Fire (1993) and Living Single (1993) during his time at The Groundlings. Will also lent his voice to the armless and legless dad of cartoon family The Oblongs. In 1995 he became a feature cast member at Saturday Night Live (1975) during the show's rapid re-casting. He was declared quite possibly the worst cast member ever during his first season. However, his talents of impersonations and range of characters shot him forward to making him arguably the greatest Saturday Night Live (1975) cast member ever. During his seven year run he is one of the few cast members to ever be nominated for an Emmy for a performance and played George W. Bush during the 2000 elections. He's appeared in every Saturday Night Live (1975) movie since his premiere on the show in 1995. In 2002 he left Saturday Night Live (1975) and was the only cast member to ever receive a farewell from all the current cast members at the end of the season finale show. Since leaving the show Will has pursued a career in films. In 2000 he married and now lives in L.A.

Are We Done Yet? Movie Review
Ice Cube plays a agitated publisher who moves his new family to the country to buy a house that is more than he bargained for. Lots of slapstick, crashing, smashing, and laughing, when his realtor sells him more than a fixer up dream house. Newlyweds Nick (Ice Cube) and Suzanne (Long) decide to move to the suburbs to provide a better life for their two kids. But their idea of a dream home is disturbed by a contractor (McGinley) with a bizarre approach to business.
