"Gravy pointed to the ground where the remains of the blue bag had landed. There was a CD lying there. 'My fingers feel funny', he said, studying them. 'I don't think I want to do any more shooting.'
'I'm glad to hear it.' Harris had crouched down to pick up the CD.
Gravy was pressing the palm of one hand against his chest. 'Warm heart', he told the detective. 'That's got to be a good thing, hasn't it?'
Jane Harris nodded, but she was still left wondering... what on earth did Celine Dion have to do with any of this?"

"He got no further before the ship's intercom buzzed into life.
'Hey, Earthman? You hungry, kid?', said Zaphod's voice.
'Er, well yes, a little peckish I suppose', said Arthur.
'OK baby, hold tight', said Zaphod. 'We'll take in a quick bite at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.'

von: Jari   Kategorie: ~ Englische Bücher

"Furnished with the advice of the attorney general on this very point, the prime minister smiled and almost apologetically made his objection. "Yes, ma'am, I agree, but the difference, surely, is that His Royal Highness wrote the book as Duke of Windsor. He could only write it because he had abdicated."
"Oh, did I not say that?", said the Queen. "But... why do you think you're all here?"

On the road

von: skindeep   Kategorie: ~ Englische Bücher

So in America when the sun goes down and I sit on the old broken-down river pier watching the long, long skies over New Jersey and sense all that raw land that rolls in one unbelievable huge buldge over to the West Coast, and all that road going, all the people dreaming of the intensity of it, and in Iowa I know now the children must be crying in the land where they let the children cry, and tonight the stars'll be out, and don't you know that God is Pooh Bear?

The evening stars must be drooping and shedding her sparkler dims on the prairie, which is just before the coming of complete night that blesses the earth, darkens all rivers, cups of peaks and folds the final shore in, and nobody, nobody knows what's going to happen to anybody besides the forlorn rags of growing old, I think of Dean Moriarty, I even think of Old Dean Moriarty the father we never found, I think of Dean Moriarty.

von: angelmagia   Kategorie: ~ Englische Bücher

To everything there is a season. Yes. A time to break down and a time to build up. Yes. A time to keep silence and a time to speak. Yes, all that. But what else? Something, something ...

And on either side of the river was there a tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month; And the leaves of the tree were for  the healing of the nations.

Yes, thought Montag, that's the one I'll save for noon. For noon...
When we reach the city.

~> On Chesil Beach

von: Jari   Kategorie: ~ Englische Bücher

"On Chesil Beach he could have called out to Florence, he could have gone after her. He did not know, or would not have cared to know, that as she ran away from him, certain in her distress that she was about to lose him, she had never loved him more, or more hopelessly, and that the sound of his voice would have been a deliverance, and she would have turned back. Instead, he stood in cold and righteous silence in the summer's dusk, watching her hurry along the shore, the sound of her difficult progress lost to the breaking of small waves, until she was a blurred, receding point against the immense straight road of shingle gleaming in the pallid light."

Slam

von: skindeep   Kategorie: ~ Englische Bücher

All of it made me feel tired. Things looked OK in this Chinese restaurant with these people, but it was a long way from where I was, way back in the present, to here. There was a lot of work to do, and arguments to have, and kids to take care of, and money to find from somewhere, and sleep to lose.

I could do it, though. I could see that.

I wouldn't be sitting here now if I couldn't do it, would I? I think that's what Tony Hawk was trying to tell me all along.

von: apres   Kategorie: ~ Englische Bücher

When I could pull my eyes away from the window, I looked at my mother. Her head was resting on the back of her seat. Her eyes were closed, and a grin was slowly forming at the corners of her mouth.

von: ameparia   Kategorie: ~ Englische Bücher

And I know who I am not.

Outside, in the heat of a summer afternoon, Maura paused and took a deep breath. She felt the day's warmth cleanse the taint of prison from her lungs. Felt, too, the poison of Amalthea Lank wash out of her life.

In her face, her eyes, Maura wore the proof of her parentage. In her vains flowed the blood of murderers. But evil was not hereditary. Though she might carry its potential in her genes, so too did every child ever born. In this, I am no different. We are all descended from monsters.

She walked away from that building of captive souls. Ahread was her car, and the road home. She did not look back.

"The end of the book -
No use to look
For anymore, my dear,
'Cause if you try finding
Some more in the binding
You may just... disappear
bye-bye"

"'So what about we give it another six month? See how we're doing?'

'Is that actually going round?' said Martin. 'I can't tell.'

We stared at it for a long time, trying to work it out. Martin was right. It didn't look as though it was moving, but it must have been, I suppose."

Will knew then, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that Marcus would be OK."

"Tasha flicks a brief look at Kate, then stares at me with hard, wide-open eyes. 'What? And why not?' I position Kate right in front of me and  slide my arms around her waist.

Possissively.

'Well, that's easy. You see, I'm going to be taking Kate.'"
