According to at least one researcher, that may be a problem. Science Daily reports that researchers tracked the Internet usage of 69 college students over the course of nine months, though subjects were given pseudonyms for privacy. Participants completed a 20-question survey called the Internet-Related Problem Scale, which measures the severity of one's potential web addiction on a scale from 0 to 200. Symptoms of addiction measured by the IRPS include introversion, withdrawal, craving, tolerance and negative life consequences, among others. The average score among participants was 75, though some scored as high as 134.

Although only people over the age of 21 are allowed to buy marijuana, psychiatrists and others remain concerned that teens could be most at risk for becoming addicted. Dr. Christian Thurstone, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Colorado and the head of the teen rehab center Adolescent STEP: Substance Abuse Treatment Education & Prevention Program, said 95 percent of patient referrals to the program are for marijuana use. After the law legalizing marijuana in Colorado passed in November, he started applying for a series of grants to expand his staff. He now has doubled his staff and still has a waiting list of patients.

aThere are things we can do but the jurisdiction lies with the province. Why the province wonat regulate them is beyond me ... The issue is they (an operator) set up as a recovery house and then get people who stay there to sign over their welfare cheques. Thatas when the province should step in and say no.a Recovery homes had been regulated in B.C. under the previous NDP government from 1998 to 2002, when the new Liberal government decided the regulations were too onerous.
