New iPhone Social App for Apple
As Apple explains it, iGroups will be a new service that will work on your iPhone and probably with MobileMe. As the name implies, the app allows groups of friends or colleagues stay in touch with each other to share information, such as during a concert, convention, or other event. In addition, users without GPS-abilities will be able to triangulate their position using the positions of other GPS-enabled devices in their group.
Apple seems to be getting pretty serious about social networking. For the fourth time this year, the Cupertino company plans to release a social networking app for the iPhone, the latest of which it will call iGroups. PatentlyApple.com says the app works with a highly sophisticated cryptographic key generation system, which should help alleviate any privacy and security concerns.
Kinda sounds like Google Wave. I have to ask why is your location required? Why not just be able to share this information with anyone you wish to and let it be. If you dig too deep into this, it becomes a glorifiyed text messenger or dumbed down email service. It's not a bad thing, but from the limited information I don't understand why anyone would use this.
One such hire includes Raja Koduri, the former chief technology officer of the graphics group at AMD. Koduri started his new position this week, while other online job postings include a call for several chip-related positions, some of which are described as "verifying functionality correctness of a high performance chip design."
While Apple is keeping silent on the subject, the company's tight-lipped approach might be one of the reasons they're looking to develop their own chips. Citing people familiar with the situation, WSJO says Apple not only wants to beat its rivals to market with new features, but also wants to keep a lid on its technology plans with external chip suppliers.
