His name is Harold

My laptop is broken! I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden last night the screen went screwy... so I'm trying to make sure I have everything backed up and then I'll want to take it to the techies on campus to see if there's anything to be done. I'm scared that I'll loose a bunch of pics that I don't have any where else and a buuuuuuuunch of notes. X_XI tried hooking it up to Lisa's monitor, but it's still not working. Maybe she can figured something else when she gets back... GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!! I'm so depressed about this!

Dead by 35

I found this little blurb in this article about Mugabe's plans to nationalize foreign firms in Zimbabwe:"ZIMBABWE CRISISInflation: approaching 5,000%Unemployment: 80%4m need food aidLife expectancy: 37 (men), 34 (women)"O_O The life expectancy of a woman is only to her MID-THIRTIES!?! And inflation climbed to nearly five thousand percent!?! What the fuck kind of world is this that my own fucking country will invade another supposedly to improve the lives of the citizens under a government that would further its own agenda rather than respect the rights of its people but leave alone another country where the government has denied the majority of its people even the most basic of rights: the right to reasonable lifespan? This makes me so fucking angry. And the sickening thing is how little people care about this. If I went around this clinic, full of learned individuals, I wonder how many would even recognize the name Mugabe. Or even Zimbabwe for that matter. Yet look at what that man has done to an entire nation of people! It's beyond belief. Where was Mugabe on Bush's "Axis of Evil?" He only seemed to care about the people against whom he had old grudges-commit crimes against humanity, but keep to yourself, and no one will even notice. GRRRRRRRAAAAAARRRRR!!

Think good thoughts

Well, my uncle Larry, my mother's only sibling, is undergoing an major operation today. He's been in the hospital since Thursday night due to an irregular heart beat since Thursday night. It's really scary because he's been bleeding a lot and that always makes surgery a risky option. I'm really worried about him, but I know it's nothing compared to his wife, my aunt's worry. She's been spending all her time with him, and I know that she's particularly concerned since she is a nurse and knows a lot about caring for someone with his symptoms. I've been praying for him, and I know that he and his family would appreciate any prayers any of you might spare for him. As for other things going on in my life, my parents are due to come back from Argentina tomorrow. I can't wait to hear Daddy gush about all his adventures. This trip was like a dream come true for him. Mom already emailed me and told me he got over 500 birds on his trip. (And no worries, the birds he was hunting are ridiculously over populated in that country to point they are considered a plague, and the birds he killed and couldn't eat himself were donated to the poor so they were eaten, too.) So I know he'll have a lot to tell me when I see him again.

^_^;;;; I'm back

Man, it's been straight forever since I last updated. Sorry! It's been partially since I was busy, and partially since I was tired from being so busy, but no matter. My parents are in Argentina! How weird is that? My mom emailed me this morning and told me about what it was like... She said they're having fun, but there is a lot of poverty, with people throwing their trash onto the street and peasants and feral dogs pick through the trash. That's pretty crazy. I've done so much since my last update, it'd be hard to recap it all, but here's a brief overview of the last almost four weeks:-Drove to Huntington, WV (through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia), to spend the night with my little brother.-Woke up the next morning, ate breakfast with Daniel at Tudor's Biscuit World, and drove to Buckhannon, where my parents live.-Went to the Cryptorchid Chipmunk show in Hodgesville with Katrina and Amaris that night and gave them back their costumes, which they promptly used. -Hung out at my parents' house until I was supposed to go see CC play again in Fairmont on my way to Pittsburgh. I couldn't find the venue and got lost in Fairmont.-Drove up to see Ali in Pittsburgh.-Spent two full days with Ali.-Met my mom and her friend, Hallie, and Hallie's sister, Mary Ellen, at the Microtel the night before we flew out.-Flew to Boston with Mom, Hallie, and Mary Ellen.-Drove to Maine (through New Hampshire). -Spent three days in Bar Harbor, Maine. We ate Maine lobster, saw Acadia National Park, went whale watching, not exactly in that order.-We drove back to Boston. I got really sick and spent the evening laying in bed wishing I could effin' die. -Spent three days in Boston. We took the subway from the hotel all over the city. We walked Freedom Trail, got a bird's eye view of Boston from the top of the Prudential Building, went to the Museum of Fine Art and saw a ton of Monets, went on the Duck tour, had real Italian food in the North End, MET JOHN KERRY IN FRONT OF THE USS CONSTITUTION, went to the Aquarium. Pretty much in that order. -Flew back to Pittsburgh. Drove to Ali's and picked up Jackson and then drove back to the parents' house.-Left the next day with Daniel and Katrina to take Daniel back to Huntington.-Got up the next morning, had breakfast with Daniel and Katrina at Tudor's Biscuit World.-Drove Katrina to Columbus, but only after stopping in Kentucky to buy a map and ice coffees.-Spent the night at Katrina's friend Sparky's house.-Had breakfast at first watch with Sparky before driving back to Pittsburgh.-Spent another couple of days with Ali.-Drove back to the parents'.-Left the next morning to drive back with my parents, caravan-style, to Florida.-Hung out with James and everyone in Port Orange for two days, including taking my parents to Open Mic.-Drove with my parents and grandma to Parkland, Florida (outside of Fort Lauderdale) to spend the Fourth of July with my family down there.-Spent two more days down there. -Drove back up here Friday night.-Spent most of the last two days hanging out with James, Ashley, and Gote. So, yeah, pretty busy. ^_^;;

For Boston!

I'm in Boston! I'm having fun. I was in Maine from Tuesday til yesterday with no internet... *weep* I felt like a part of me had been cut from my side! Hahaha, not really. In fact, we were so busy, I didn't really miss it. We went to Acadia National Park. It was heavenly. I'll post pics later, most likely. Today we walked the Freedom Trail. Hooray for everything.

OMG

I'm leaving for two and a half weeks tomorrow! Jackie's coming with me, but no one else. Sherri already left for her summer vacation. James got Guitar Hero, which essentially means that James is gone. Ashley is... um, same as ever. So is Lisa. But! Many of us are going some where either literally or figuratively for the next few weeks. ^_^;;;;I'm single again. It's a silly story. I really can't believe the songs on Guitar Hero. It's everything from badass cool to wtf. James is attacking them with some vigor. He'll be able to smoke my ass when I come back in a few weeks. Fair enough. I kill him at Beans. I'm totally excited for my trips coming up. I get to see Daniel tomorrow! Hooray! I get to go to a kickass concert with my Kittie and Amaris Friday! And Ali this weekend! And New England with my Mom from Tuesday to the next Monday! And Daniel on the following Tuesday! And Columbus on Wednesday! And Pittsburgh on Thursday! And coming home on Sunday! Damn, I'm going to be fucking tired. ^_^

A story and some songs.

Sorry about that jazz in the corner. Anyone know any good free gif making programs that don't jazz up your final product?Anyway, it was One Night Stan night tonight... at Duke's! Yay and all that fun stuff. Tonight I ended up recording every single song in the set. You can watch the videos on my youtube profile once they're all uploaded. The goal is to get them all up before bed, but that might be hard, seeing as it's already past three-thirty in the morning. Hehe.

Dancing in the rain at Disney!

Last night was so much fun. The only thing it was missing was Sherri, but she had to work late, awww. Ashley and I had been talking about going to Orlando to pass out flyers for the upcoming One Night Stan shows and pretty much decided that Wednesday was it for us. It just so happened that Gote and James got out of work at about the same time, so we picked them up to take with us. Dougie also came with us, since he lives nearish Gote and was easy enough to pick up as well. First we went to the Florida Mall to paper the bathrooms with flyers. While there we had the great tour of the food court where we received no less six samples from various booths, all of which were chicken. ^_^;;; I ended up with mushroom chicken, James a burrito, and Gote and Ashley got free Mexican food because Gote played the server a song on his ukulele. Oh yeah, I forgot. Gote brought his ukulele, and played in the car and wandering around the mall. Who needs an Ipod when you've got a Gote?? ^_^After that we went to the Collesium Comics on Orange Blossom Trail, which was like going to Elainie heaven. Ooooh, that new comics smell is just fantastic. They had everything, and if I had been able to, I could have spent several hundred dollars there, easily. As it was, James was the only one that made a purchase, but we got to leave a bunch of flyers by the door, so some of our purpose was met. Then we went to Downtown Disney, but the rain started getting ridiculously heavy at about that point. We went to a few stores, but after each place we went, the rain got harder and harder. After the candy shop, Ashley and I danced in the rain for a bit, and Doug joined in. The other guys tried to stay dry, but it was a moot point. After we finally left the House of Blues outdoor bar, the rain was falling with the pressure of a shower head, and I was wading through water up over my ankles. We then retreated to Gote's house to try to dry off. I had a spare shirt and shoes, James had his work shirt, and Ashley and Gote wore some of Gote's dry clothes. Poor Doug was the only one who had no fresh clothing to change into. Poor Puppypie. While there, though, we played rousing games of Guitar Hero and watched Gote's self-made movies of awesomeness. It Came From The Crapper changed my life. ^_^It was fun to see Doug two days in a row. He came to Open Mic night, so we got to have dinner at Sapporo's, watch the show, and even hang out a little before the festivities. It was a sort of quiet night at Open Mic, I guess since Gote was late, but satisfying as always. It amazes me how he never seems to tire of preforming. We all went to his show in Casselberry last Saturday where he played rather enthusiastically with his band, and there is another One Night Stan show this weekend. Still, he brings along his ukulele to entertain us yesterday! ^_^ It's so cool to see a person truly enjoy their craft so much. I talked to Jenny today, and she's coming up to see me Sunday through Wednesday. That's going to be sooooooo great! She's going to get to come to Open Mic! Yaaaaaaaay! Then, if clinic allows, I'm leaving Thursday for WV so I can see people before my big New England trip. If not, I'll have to leave Friday. I need to call Theresa and see when/if I can see her and the baby. This trip up north is going to be a total whirlwind thing. Pittsburgh from the night of the 16th through the morning of the 19th, Boston the next day, a few days of Maine, then back to Boston and possibly Rhode Island, then back to Pittsburgh on the 25th. The two days of Columbus with Katrina, then two days of Pittsburgh with Katrina, then back to WV to possibly visit Daniel, then back to Florida. I'll be on the move the entire trip. That's about par for the course for me, but it's going to be something. And two weeks without my Dougie, aww.

Well

I've been lazy about updating but now that I have homework and paperwork that I could be doing, my procrastination instinct has kicked in and here I am. I went to the One Night Stan show this weekend... with my boyfriend and some friends. Yep, boyfriend. He's cuter than pie. I'll post pics, but I don't have the full size versions on this computer yet. For now though: That's us. Awww. Krane just distracted me from being distracted just now, so now I'm going to end this and move on with my life. Expect a pics post properly chronicling the show in a little while.

Controversy and a long due decision

Click that banner to read about how Live Journal/Six Apart is deleting journals without warning, not for content or doing anything wrong but for having the wrong interests. Given how tongue in cheek and outright sarcastic my generation has a tendency to be, that's nuts. We often say the opposite of what we mean just for the shock/comedy value. My brother referred to himself as a dirty pirate hooker on his facebook profile. Anyone with half a brain can see that he was just joking. For someone unfamiliar with the subcultures of Live Journal, how hard would be to miss an inside joke that spawned several years ago and misinterpret the meaning?The basic fact is that context matters, and interests do NOT allow for context. For example: I have compulsive skin picking listed as an interest. But that doesn't mean that I'm advocating do it. In fact, I'm trying to control my CSP. I'm anti-CSP, but is still an interest of mine. I mean, if you were really passionate about the environment, wouldn't "pollution" be a natural interest? Anyway, I've been sort of half-doing this for a while, but this controversy has kicked me into gear. I'm going to start mirroring my journal on my myspace blog, but without custom friends filters, I have also decided to mirror on Insane Journal and Greatest Journal for the moment until I decide how much I like them. I would encourage everyone to mirror or back up their entries, just in case, and recommend getting an Insane Journal account if for no other reason than the fact that their free account allows for 100 user icons. I'm already in love!

An interlude:

To all people who see fit to treat me like an idiot or a lesser being--I often have to explain the vocabulary I use in conversation to friends.-I will be a doctor by age 25.-I have a degree in biology, and never failed/dropped a class in trying to obtain it. -I have been hung over less times than I have fingers on my hands.-I have never caused an accident. -I have patients whose lives I've improved. -I have many friends I am devoted to and are devoted to me.-I have been the person that people turn to for help or for a nonjudgmental ear. -I am a responsible pet owner.-I am comfortable in my own skin.-I know I have flaws, and I know what they are, and I try to learn how to make them work for me.-I can beat a sodoku puzzle in three and a half minutes. ^_^-I have a dream for my future that allows me to provide for others what I always wanted for myself. I felt reminding myself and anyone else who needs it, too, about these qualities of mine. It's a cheesy saying-"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right," but there is some merit to it. Believing in yourself is the first step. ^_^;;;

Wheeeeeeeeeekend

Well, I had a really low-key, chill weekend, which was nice. Sherri left Saturday morning for her trip home, so I was ON MY OWN. Hehe. I ended up hanging out with Ashley and James Friday night, James Saturday, and Ashley and James again last night. Interesting that even when Sherri's gone, she still indirectly entertains me through friends she's introduced me to. This morning was a paperwork morning. I had a few files that needed attention, so I came in to the clinic specifically for that. It's insane how much time paperwork can take. v_v That's really all that's going on in my life. Jackson and Penny stayed with Christian over the weekend, and I think he enjoyed their presence. ^_^ Maybe I can finally convince those crazy kids that they would be happier with a doggie in their home. ^_^ I just have to say... I have some program now that underlines my misspelled words as I type... I think it's the updated version of Firefox. It's pretty awesome! I like having the spelling help; as anyone who knows me knows, spelling is my kryptonite. ^_^
