A few thoughts about the electronic diversity visa lottery...

One way to obtain one of the coveted Green Cards is to win one in the electronic diversity visa lottery. Each year the United States distribute 50,000 permanent residency visas by raffling them to immigrants. How many people of a country can win a visa depends on the immigration rate to the U.S. of the country they live in. Countries with a low immigration rate get more visas than countries with a high immigration rate. That is to increase the diversity of immigrants to the United States.

Being selected in the electronic diversity visa lottery does not automatically mean that the immigrant has won a Greencard . The applicant has to show his qualification during an interview at the US Embassy , he has to provide a high school diploma or a two-year work experience in a profession that requires at least two years of training. He has to present police certificates, medical examination forms and a job offer. If the selected applicant is qualified he may win a Green Card.

Participation in the electronic diversity visa lottery is free. Applicants may turn to various agencies that for a fee complete the electronic form for them. But applicants must beware: there are a lot of companies and picking the right one is not that easy.

Indeed there is only way to enter the electronic diversity visa lottery : On the page of the United States Department of State every applicant will find an electronic form which he has to complete and send within the period of registration.
